Oration by Dr. D. C. Kuruppu

Dr. D.C. Kuruppu, Deputy Librarian of University of Colombo, made the first oration of the University Librarians’ Association of Sri Lanka at the inauguration of its 42nd Annual General Meeting held in the Auditorium of the Main Library, University of Colombo on 30th October 2024, in the presence of Senior Prof. (Chair) H.D. Karunaratne, the Vice Chancellor, University of Colombo who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The topic of oration was “Facilitating Evidence-Based Medicine through Empirical Studies and Systematic Reviews: Librarians as Research Catalysts” highlighting her contributions to transforming librarianship into a cornerstone of evidence-based medicine. During the oration, Dr. Kuruppu showcased her academic journey, interdisciplinary approach, and impactful research, such as developing patient-specific toolkits for breast cancer awareness in Sri Lanka. She also emphasized the librarians’ roles in bridging research gaps, enhancing systematic reviews, and advancing healthcare knowledge, inspiring her peers to redefine the scope of librarianship.
