BALIS students of the Open University visited the University of Colombo Library

A study tour on Library Automation for the Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BALIS) students of the Open University was successfully held on 25th July 2025 at the University of Colombo. The program was organised at both the Science Library and the Main Library of the University, providing participants with valuable exposure to modern library practices and automation systems.

The first session, held at the Science Library, focused on Library Automation. The session was conducted by Mrs. Sajeewanie D. Somaratna, Deputy Librarian and Mr. Lankathilake, Senior Assistant Librarian of the Science Library, who shared their expertise on the processes and technologies used in automating library services.

The second session consisted of a Library Tour and an Introduction to the University of Colombo Library. Mrs. Anuja Silva, Senior Assistant Librarian at the Main Library, facilitated this session. Students were introduced to the library’s divisions, facilities, and resources.

The program provided an excellent opportunity for BALIS students to gain hands-on insights into practical aspects of library automation and to familiarise themselves with the University of Colombo Library system.
