
Breast Cancer Awareness Session at the Main Library, University of Colombo
The Main Library of the University of Colombo organised a Breast Cancer Awareness Session on 29th October 2025, under the theme “Early Detection Saves Lives – Empowering Knowledge Against Breast Cancer.” The programme aimed to raise awareness on the importance of early detection, prevention, and support for individuals affected by breast cancer. The session was conducted by the National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP) coordinating team, led by Dr. Suraj N. Perera and Prof. Udari A. Liyanage from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo. Their active involvement and expertise greatly contributed to the success of the programme.
The session was graced by Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Colombo, as the Chief Guest. Distinguished medical professionals from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, shared valuable insights on breast cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment.
The awareness session featured informative presentations and interactive discussions, emphasising the importance of regular screenings, healthy lifestyle choices, and community support in reducing the burden of breast cancer.
The programme was well attended by university staff members, students, and guests whose enthusiastic participation reflected their commitment to promoting awareness, compassion, and proactive health practices within the university community.
Through this initiative, the Main Library reaffirmed its role as a hub of learning and well-being, promoting public health education and empowering individuals with knowledge that can save lives.
