Celebrating Literary and Reading Month 2025 - University of Colombo Library

Event 03 – Bookmark Design Project 

The Library of the University of Colombo implemented a special project titled “Bookmark Design Project” to commemorate National Reading Month 2025. This creative initiative was designed to foster a culture of reading while highlighting the artistic talent and innovation of the library staff.

As part of the project, staff members designed and crafted handmade bookmarks entirely from scratch, using eco-friendly and sustainable materials. These unique creations reflected both environmental consciousness and artistic expression.

The most outstanding designs received special commendation from Professor Indika M. Karunathilake, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo, during his visit to the Main Library on 16th October 2025.

The bookmarks were later distributed among university students, inspiring them to embrace the joy of reading and reinforcing the Library’s dedication to promoting literacy, creativity, and sustainability within the academic community.

The project was successfully coordinated by Dr. Chiranthi Wijesundara, Senior Assistant Librarian, with the enthusiastic participation of the Library staff.
