Celebrating Literary and Reading Month 2025 – University of Colombo Library
In celebration of Reading Month, the Main Library of the University of Colombo organised an exciting and intellectually stimulating competition titled “Book Hunt 2025” for the library users. The event aimed to encourage greater use of library resources among undergraduates while enhancing and recognising their awareness of the Library’s collections and services.
The competition was initiated and coordinated by Dr. N. M. Karannagoda, Senior Assistant Librarian, under the guidance of the Librarian, with the dedicated support of the entire Library staff.
Book Hunt 2025 was conducted as a team-based competition comprising two members per team. It was open to students from the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Law, and Faculty of Management and Finance. The faculty-wise preliminary rounds were held on 23rd, 24th, 25th, and 26th September 2025, followed by the grand finale on 3rd October 2025 at the Main Library premises.
The competition creatively combined fun, teamwork, and a learning experience. Teams were challenged to locate secret envelopes hidden in various sections of the Library based on randomly drawn clues. Each envelope contained a book title and five related questions, requiring participants to locate the book, find the answers, and return within the shortest possible time. The winners were selected based on both accuracy and speed in finding the envelopes and answering questions.
After an engaging and competitive final round, the Faculty of Education team emerged as the champions, while the Faculty of Management and Finance and Faculty of Arts secured the second and third places, respectively. Valuable gifts and certificates were presented to the winners and faculty-wise top teams, and certificates of participation were awarded to all participants.
The prize-giving ceremony, held on 16th October 2025 at the Main Library, which was graced by Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo, as the Chief Guest.
