
Dr. Md. Anwarul Islam is a Professor in the Department of Information Science and Library Management at the University of Dhaka. He earned his PhD from the School of Knowledge Science at the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), Japan, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the iSchool, University of British Columbia, Canada. He was also a VLIR-UOS Fellow (2012) at the University of Antwerp, Belgium, and an ACRC Fellow (2013) at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. His research interests span knowledge management, information behaviour, and informetrics. His work on libraries particularly emphasizes amplifying the voices of marginalized communities and improving equitable access to information. In recognition of his contributions, he was named among the 100 Asian Scientists of 2024 by Asian Scientist Magazine. He has secured multiple research grants, including the Purdue IIL Research Grant (Purdue University, USA), the ASIS&T Chapter Development Fund (USA), the Centennial Research Grant (University of Dhaka), and several competitive awards from the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh. Dr. Islam has held leadership roles in the Association for Information Science & Technology (ASIS&T), USA, and has been recognized with the Lois Lunin Award (2023), the James M. Cretsos Leadership Award (2021), and the ASIS&T New Leader Award (2017–2018).
