Internship Programme for Undergraduates of the University of Kelaniya and the University of Colombo

The Library of the University of Colombo successfully conducted two internship programmes for undergraduate students from the University of Kelaniya and the University of Colombo from  December 2025 to February 2026. The programme was designed to provide practical exposure to the core functions of an academic library. During the training period, the interns worked closely with the library staff, receiving guidance and professional insights into library services and operations.

The primary training sessions were held at the Main Library of the University of Colombo. In addition, the interns visited the Medical Library and the Science Library, gaining experience in the operations of specialised academic libraries. Through this internship, students received hands-on training in areas such as acquisitions, cataloguing, periodicals management, circulation, reference services, digital resources, and user education. The programme provided a valuable opportunity for students to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical experience in an academic library environment.
