Inauguration of Emeritus Professor Sarath Kotagama’s Collection at the Science Library, University of Colombo

A scholarly collection of works by Vidya Jothi Emeritus Professor Sarath W. Kotagama was launched at the Science Faculty Library on 22 August 2025. About 50 books authored by him on Ornithology, Environmental Sciences, Wildlife and Conservation were donated to the Science Faculty Library as the second addition to the ‘Scholars’ Corner’, established at the University of Colombo Library in 2023.

This ceremony coincided with the celebration of Professor Kotagama’s Diamond Jubilee. Dean of the Faculty of Science, Professor Upul Sonnadara; Acting Librarian, Dr. Kalpana Manthunga; and Deputy Librarian, Mrs. Sajeewanie Somaratna, received the collection from Professor Kotagama. During the event, Professor Kotagama’s collection was unveiled on a virtual platform.

Head of the Department of Zoology, Professor Devaka Weerakoon; President of the Field Ornithology Group of Sri Lanka, Professor Nihal Dayawansa; and other distinguished guests also contributed to the occasion. The event was organised by the Department of Zoology & Environment Sciences, together with the Science Faculty Library and the Field Ornithology Group of Sri Lanka (FOGSL).
