Farewell to Mr. G.C. Kumara

Mr. G.C. Kumara, who served as a Senior Assistant Registrar at the Main Library of the University of Colombo, retired from his position on the 18th of April 2024. Mr. Kumara began his tenure in the University system in 1991 at the University of Colombo. In 1994, he began his career in the library at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ruhuna, as a Library Assistant. The following year, he transferred to the main library at the University of Colombo for the same position through mutual agreement. Throughout his 29 years of dedicated service to the university library, he assumed diverse responsibilities, progressing to the position of Assistant Registrar in 2007, followed by promotion to Senior Assistant Registrar in 2012.

Mr. Kumara holds a Bachelor of Arts and a master’s degree in Social Sciences from the University of Kelaniya. Additionally, he obtained a second master’s degree in Business Studies and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management from the University of Colombo. Furthermore, he completed a Diploma in Library and Information Science from the Sri Lanka Library Association (SLLA).

Throughout his career, Mr. Kumara made significant contributions in various administrative capacities within the University of Colombo Library.
